About Habitat For Humanity

Welcome to Habitat for Humanity of Wichita Falls

Habitat for Humanity of Wichita Falls was founded in 1992 and has built over 100 homes with local families in need.  Fifteen families have paid off their mortgage with Habitat.

Funds are raised locally to build homes in our community.  We need your help to make a generational difference in a low-income family's life by donating and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Wichita Falls.  Our goal is to eliminate poverty housing in our community.

Habitat works like an old-fashioned barn raising of a hundred years ago.  The affiliate recruits the volunteers from churches, civic groups, Sheppard Air Force Base and our community to help build a house according to the needs of the partner family.

Each family is qualified by Habitat's family selection committee based on three factors; Parnership, ability to pay, and need.  Parnership is the family's willingness to participate in the Habitat building process and contribute sweat equity, as well as participate in publicity events for Habitat.  Ability to pay means the family's income falls between our affiliate guidelines of 30-60% of the median income for Wichita Falls; they have a decent record of paying their current debt obligations, and can afford to pay back a zero percent interest mortgage payment to Habitat.  The house payments made by Habitat partner families are recycled to help build more houses in our community for other low-income families.  Each family also must have a need for Habitat's help.  Need is defined as the family having at least one of the following conditions: homeless, inadequate housing, cost burden, overcrowded living conditions, living in government subsidized housing, and/or unsafe living conditions.

Habitat for Humanity is a Hand Up and not a Hand Out.  Please join us as we make our community a better place for all of our families.  Join our Sustainer's Club for $10+ per month and help us eliminate poverty housing from our community.  Volunteer with us on the build site, Habitat's Builder's Bargains, or on a committee.  You can help us make a difference in the lives of a family in need today.
